Kinder Scout

Kinder Scout

Although Kinder Scout is only a Small mountain its unforgiving environment and moon like plateau with stunning rock formations is a great task for any walker and in poor conditions will need good map reading skills and some mountain experience.

Kinder Scout and the surrounding area is a dark peat area and can get boggy during wet conditions there are also small rivers and streams to cross particularly taking the route from hayfield and up what is known as William Clough so good waterproof boots and probably gaiters are advised.

Kinder Scout is more famously known for the mass trespass of Kinder Scout in 1932 that eventually resulted in laws being changed giving us the “right to roam”

Upon the plateau you will find Kinder Downfall and at Thirty meters is the highest waterfall in the Peak District and is a section of Kinder River that flows into Kinder reservoir. In certain wind conditions the waterfall can give the impression that the water is flowing up the waterfall and is a great place to rest before tackling the next section of the plateau.

There are many routes around Kinder Scout including routes from Hayfield and the trek up Jacobs Ladder from Edale, overall the Mountain of Kinder Scout can give you great enjoyment and as a character of its own, in scenery from its grit stone and peaty footpaths to its great views across Manchester and even Wales on a clear day it gives you a sense of difference from other mountains and can be enjoyed by any generation of walker.

is a mountain plateau in the Derbyshire Peak District of England, and at 636 m above sea level is the highest point in the Peak District.
